After I updated my OS from Windows 10 to Windows 11, "open file location" disappeared from search result sometimes. Sometimes, it shows me "open file location" like this so that I can open the containing folder.
Here's what I want to do: Hit Windows. Type in a search for a file. Select the file (arrow keys). Open the file's containing folder without right-clicking (like in Spotlight with Command + Enter).
As far as I can remember whenever I right clicked any app in start menu (not shortcut), "open file location" option popped up but since updating the machine, it looks like it shows up only for some selected apps like "firefox", or sys-admin tools like "command prompt" and others not for everything like "calculator", "word" or "excel".
Under that menu you will find an option to Open file location This will open an Explorer window where the executable is located: You can click into the address bar to copy out the actual location. For me the mspaint.exe is currently located at C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Paint_11.2411.471.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\PaintApp.
It looks like a shortcut which was added to startup folder in the 'old' start menu which doesn't point to a valid location. The fact that it's called 'Program' suggests someone tried to run a command with 'Program Files' as an argument without properly quoting the argument to deal with the space in the directory name.
3 In my workflow I frequently need to open the explorer file location of a spreadsheet I'm working in, and it's tedious to click File -> Info -> Open File Location every time. Is there a way to add that command to the Quick Access Toolbar? It doesn't show up in the command list, as shown.
If I search for a folder such as "Pictures" and then try to open it with the "open file location" button, it won't open. I can still use the "open file location" button for normal files and it'll open the file location, but not folders. Is there a registry entry for this behavior I can edit/merge a backup .reg file for? (Or any other solution.
the “Program” file is not dangerous or needed. the “Program” file is probably a deleted file from a software that you uninstalled before. if you want to delete it tho, you can do this: first, open task manager. then click the “startup” tab. then right-click one of the bars then click “Command line” and “Startup type”.
