SNAP benefits: Maryland governor declares state of emergency as food aid nears cutoff
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore has declared a state of emergency to use federal emergency funds and keep food assistance running as SNAP benefits are set to expire this weekend.
Marylanders who receive federal benefits may be impacted if the government shutdown continues into November. On Saturday, the shutdown reached 18 days without an agreement in sight.
With federal SNAP benefits set to end Nov. 1 after last month’s government shutdown, Maryland leaders, nonprofits and food businesses are mobilizing to prevent a surge in hunger across the state.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore has declared a State of Emergency due to the ongoing government shutdown and the looming expiration of SNAP food assistance benefits on Nov. 1.
