In a suspected case of reverse evolution, wild tomatoes in the Galápagos have developed a defense mechanism that hasn’t been seen in millions of years.

Researchers found over 200 cultural artifacts within nests of bearded vultures, with the oldest item to date — a woven sandal — estimated be from the 13th century.

More than a quarter of all animals, plants and fungi assessed are at risk of extinction, according to the latest IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
